The defendant had applied to be a registered nurse at a hospice care facility in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The facility hired her before a fingerprint-based background check. However, the completed screening revealed a conviction on her record for impersonating a nurse in Texas. As a result, she faced a ban from working in facilities, including nursing homes. This discovery led to her arrest by the Michigan State Police and delivery to the FBI. She received multiple charges shortly after.
According to U.S. Attorney Totten, the allegations that the defendant “faked being a licensed nurse and created false medical records are extremely alarming.” Attorney Totten further detailed concerns felt by many, explaining how “posing as a certified medical professional… risked patient care and put unsuspecting individuals in harm’s way. My office takes this threat to public safety very seriously and appreciates the work of our law enforcement partners in this investigation.”

The defendant’s charges include healthcare fraud, which is punishable by up to five years of imprisonment. Her aggravated identity theft also carries a mandatory sentence of two years in prison.
