Dispute the Accuracy of Your Background Report
See something that doesn’t look right in your background report? You have the right to file a dispute. Before you get started, here’s what you need to know.
Learn Your Rights
The federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) — which promotes the accuracy, fairness and privacy of information in the files of consumer reporting agencies — grants you rights regarding your background check. You can see a detailed summary of your rights under the FCRA here.
How Did Inaccurate Information Get in My Background Report?
JDP’s background report data comes from publicly available information. Because public records are not immune to errors, it’s possible that inaccurate records were unknowingly included in your report. Some common reasons for inaccurate information showing up in a background report include:
- Identity theft
- Typos made by the public agency when they created a record
- Records that were not updated by the public agency
- Mix-ups as a result of having a common name
How to Start Your Dispute
After reviewing your rights, please fill out the dispute form on this page to let us know about any inaccuracies in your background report. Please share as many details as possible when submitting the dispute form. You’ll hear back from JDP’s dispute team via email or phone within 5 business days.
